Save Olympic Wrestling
Obviously, I was shocked when I heard the news of Wrestling being dropped from the Olympic Program of the 2020 Games. I had to check the headlines and articles a couple of times because I could not fathom that this would ever happen.I found out on twitter at about 7:30am, while on a trip to Cuba with USA Wrestling, and was the one to actually break the news to current National Team Coach, Zeke Jones along with the other coaches, trainers, and athletes on the trip. The day started out with a 9am practice, and it seemed like everyone had the wind taken out of our sails. The coaches and wrestlers couldn’t believe what just happened, and I still don’t think we do. It hasn’t hit us yet, we can’t imagine it. Something we have been working for our entire lives, can be taken away from us by a few people who probably have no idea what they were F*CKING doing. Its hard to imagine how many hours wrestlers have put into the sport to become an OLYMPIC CHAMPION, and with one vote made by a board of clearly IGNORANT people on the subject, it can be taken away from them just like that.At first I was shocked, then it turned to anger, and as I write this, the anger issue is coming up again, but it has turned more into amazement of the support and outrage that so many people have expressed. Many people might give up, but that can’t be this way to go. As wrestlers and athletes, we sometimes want to give up when things get hard, but we need to push through, and show the IOC who we are and what we want. We’re gonna keep GETTIN’ DIRTY until we get the Wrestling back in the 2020 Olympic Program. “This aggression will not stand… This aggression will not stand, man.”
